“Gabrielle picked up the brief quickly and wrote well-researched, informative copy about Portugal that showed off her invaluable insider knowledge. By quickly grasping what was needed, she made the job simple and returned the copy promptly. I would be happy to work with Gabrielle again in future.”

Retire to the Sun

I hired Gabrielle to conduct in-depth research and write a lengthy report based on the research. Her research was extremely high quality and the content of her report was excellent and very well-written. I was thrilled with the results of Gabrielle's work and highly recommend her for any future research or writing opportunities. I would definitely hire Gabrielle again.”

Gabrielle was born in London and attended Nonsuch High School for Girls in Cheam. Being a rather free-spirited person and finding the constraints and curriculum of an all girls’ grammar school a bit too much, she left at 16 to start a job in structural engineering in London. However, she later returned to academic life and studied Sports Science at university to post-graduate level. During this time, she became a decent runner, gaining an Athletics National Championship (AAA) medal in the 3000m and various vests for road and track. She also spent time as a part-time teacher and coach.

Unfortunately, due to an Achilles tendon injury she decided to retire from athletics and with her running behind her travelled about for a while pursuing other interests.

Gabrielle's parents moved to Portugal in 2000 and so she found herself spending more and more time there. Having already dabbled with French and Spanish, and some Italian, she soon picked up a working knowledge of Portuguese and began to get involved in helping non-Portuguese-speaking expatriates with bureaucracy and property purchase problems. It therefore seemed the logical next step to write a book in order to pass on the knowledge that she had gained in this area.

She is now based in North London and has also written articles on sports science related subjects, information for websites and relocation and travel guides. She is currently working on a book about British marathon runners of the 1980s, a project that was originally kindly sponsored by Sir Eddie Kulukundis.
